Visit any website or social media platform and you’ll see videos entertaining visitors and engaging their attention. Once they have enjoyed the entertainment, the relevant pitch for products and services is made, often with excellent results.

Entire business models have been built around video.

Take the example of the fitness industry. According to an estimate, in 2017, there were 35 million fitness videos on YouTube alone. You can easily imagine the current number of videos in 2023!

Now, what does the rise of video mean for your WordPress-based business?

It means you have a powerful medium for capturing visitors’ attention.

Once you have them, it is easy to show them your offer. Since they are already quite receptive to your message, there is a much higher chance that they will convert into paying customers.

WordPress Supports Video

The good news is that WordPress as a platform fully supports video.

WordPress makes it extremely easy to integrate and display videos to your visitors. That’s why you see many websites using video to show testimonials, product demos, and infomercials.

The success of video depends upon how you handle video placement. Similarly, how you choose to playback video at your website severely impacts the user experience.

That’s why you need to seriously consider how you would embed and playback videos on your WordPress website.

While you are thinking about it, you also need to consider how video fits into your marketing strategy.

Video Marketing Statistics

Discover the power of video marketing with the following compelling statistics showcased in an infographic before delving into the scenarios where video becomes central to your marketing strategy.

Video in Your Marketing Strategy

Whatever business you’re in, video can play an essential role in any marketing strategy.

There are two primary scenarios where video becomes central to the marketing strategy.

When Video Is Central To Your Marketing Strategy

This is usually the case where videos are used for marketing your product or services.

In this case, videos are used to bring the target audience within the sales funnel and impress them with the use cases and benefits of the product or service.

Here videos are used to show customer testimonials, product demos, service walkthroughs, and product uses.

When the Video Is the Product

The second scenario is where the video is the core offering of the business. This is usually the case with course creators, trainers, and consultants.

These businesses also use videos in their marketing, in almost the same way as the first category.

However, the primary use of the video is as a product that generates revenue. The product could come in several options, from standalone sessions to complete multi-part courses.

Enter the WordPress Video Player Plugin

You need a player to play videos on your website. So whether you use videos in marketing only or they are the main product on your website, you need a reliable solution that makes sure the visitors on your site can view videos without any hassle.

At this point, you might ask – why do I need to bloat my website with another plugin? A related question could be – isn’t the Gutenberg video block enough for embedding videos into pages and posts?

Both are good questions and have the same answer – yes.

You can use the Gutenberg video block to embed videos into your website. The process is pretty straightforward, and the results are not that bad.

However, that’s about it for the native Gutenberg video block.

Here’s Why You Need a WordPress Video Player Plugin

Marketers use video to impress the target audience and catch their attention so that they’ll explore more pages. In addition, video is used to collect information about the visitors and present them with relevant offers.

That’s where WordPress video players come into their own.

In general, WordPress video player plugins bring in the following benefits:

Support For Page Builders

These video plugins for WordPress play well with all page builders. This means you can build your website with any page builder such as Elementor and Beaver Builder. These plugins integrate well with the design of your website without breaking anything.

Use Multiple Hosts

WordPress video player plugins can fetch videos from all popular sources from the local server to Amazon S3 and Google Drive. This allows you more independence in choosing the right video hosting platform for your business.

Customize the Player

Since video plugins integrate well with page builders, you can use HTML and CSS to style the player to fit your design. In many cases, businesses with video as a product require the player to be “invisible.” This can be done quickly with these plugins.

Leverage Videos For Marketing

Video player plugins go beyond simple video playback. They help with video analytics, using video to collect emails and displaying calls to action. You can also use these plugins to set up a milestone in the user journey and direct the viewers to the next stage of the funnel.

Optimized Video Experience

Even a minor stutter in the video can ruin the experience and would defeat the purpose of using it in the first place.

Video player plugins give you better control over how viewers can interact with the video. You can choose to show or hide playback controls and add timestamps to help viewers get to their desired location without delay.

Where You Host Videos Can Make or Break Your Business

The second component of a video marketing strategy is where you host your videos. This might seem like an easy decision. Of course, you have lots of server space, and what’s more accessible than uploading videos to the same server that’s already hosting your WordPress website, right?

Well, not exactly

Hosting videos on the same server as your website, known as self-hosting, might make good sense at first glance.

It adds next to nothing to the operational costs and you can use the same account you use to upload website files to upload videos.

However, in real-world terms, self-hosting videos can add significant drag on website performance. This becomes especially problematic when the number of visitors increases.

As more and more visitors watch your videos, the server has to allocate more resources to these requests. Resources it cannot use to serve website visitors.

This slows down page load speed and can adversely impact the user experience.

A good alternative is to host your videos on dedicated video hosts. Then, use a WordPress video player plugin to embed and playback the videos on the website.

This solution overcomes those shortcomings of self-hosting. You’re using a separate server for your videos and your website. Visitors can view videos as much as they like without impacting website performance.

No matter how popular your videos become, visitors will always get the experience they expect!

The more you buy, the higher is your discount! Isn’t that the case, more often than not?

Buy a single product, and you may get a discount on the second purchase.

Buy products in bulk, and you may get a discount on all the products.

Buy products wholesale, well, the prices are even more competitive.

In the offline world, this is relatively simple to incorporate. The customer comes up to the checkout, you apply the discount based on the purchases, and that’s it. As simple as it gets!

But, how do you incorporate the price variations in your online store? After all, the entry price point for all the products is the same, irrespective of the type of customers.

Guess what? It’s as simple and straightforward as in the offline world.

And in this article, we’ll walk you through the exact steps of setting up varying product prices, otherwise known as dynamic pricing, for your WooCommerce store customers.

From setting up a WooCommerce dynamic pricing plugin to creating pricing rules for customers based on their purchase behavior to configuring the dynamic price settings and selling products, we have it all covered in this article. And if you’re interested in learning more and getting started with adding product variations and check out our article on how to add product variations in WooCommerce stores.

What is WooCommerce dynamic pricing?

Dynamic pricing is a pricing strategy where you create variations in your product prices. These variations are based on factors such as the number of products purchased, customer’s purchase history, and so on.

Dynamic pricing example

Here are a few examples where WooCommerce dynamic pricing is applied,

  • Buy 2, get 20% discount,
  • Buy 5, get 50% discount
  • Buy one and get the second at a 50% discount

And many similar ones.

Creating such offers lures customers into spending more to take advantage of discounts. After all, who wouldn’t want to cash in on such deals and save big time!

Offering discounts backed with a limited period time frame can create a fear of missing out on a great deal and in the process, save some money.

As a store owner, you must take advantage of the human psychological behaviour, using strategies such as FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) to boost your sales.

Fear of missing out is a feeling of regret when one sees a great opportunity slipping away. We’d rather capture the opportunity than regret later. Leveraging this psychological behaviour through time-limited offers can help increase sales.

With the right pricing strategy, you can boost your store sales and increase the average spend from each customer.

Why and when should you use dynamic pricing discounts?

The aim is to sell more. It’s as simple as that!

To increase your online sales, you’ll include methods such as coupons, discount vouchers, BOGO (Buy One Get One) offer, among many more, as part of your marketing strategy. All in an effort to close more sales.

Incorporating dynamic pricing and discounts is one such strategy and helps convert casual visitors into customers quickly and hopefully get them into buying more.

For instance, let’s say you’d like to increase the sales of shirts of a certain color in your store. And you are running an offer ‘Buy 5 Shirts and Get 20% Discount’.

Now, someone coming to your store with the intention of buying a single shirt may not necessarily be lured with such an offer. Considering they’d have to purchase five shirts to get the 20% discount, this may not be their idea of a good deal.

So, let’s rework the marketing strategy. This time round, let’s offer the following discounts,

  1. Buy up to 5 shirts for a 20% discount
  2. Buy between 6 and 10 shirts for a 35% discount
  3. Buy more than ten shirts for a 50% discount

This is a much better way to offer a discount. The more you buy, the bigger the discount. You are not only catering to a customer interested in buying a single piece, but you are also catering to someone interested in purchasing multiple units.

It’s interesting to note that all these pricing rules have been set once to a single product. We are not creating multiple instances or bundle offers for the same product.

Now that we’ve covered the ‘why’ behind dynamic pricing, let’s understand ‘when’ we should incorporate this strategy.

There are several instances where you’d like to offer dynamic prices for your users, and some instances are based on factors such as,

Bulk purchase

The more you buy, the bigger are the discounts you get. Store owners lure customers into buying more by offering exciting discounts on bulk purchases. Offering more significant discounts on bulk purchases helps store owners increase the average order value from each customer and sell inventory faster.

Time-limited sale

An end-of-season sale, Christmas and new year sale, Black Friday sale, and so on; leveraging on specific periods during the year or the holiday seasons and offering such varied discounts is another great way to increase sales and revenue.

Creating a sense of urgency, along with the fear of missing out on a great deal is a powerful motivator that store owners use to sell with time limits.

Order value

Get a 10% discount on purchases up to $1000.

Get a 50% discount on purchases over $1000.

Order value is another instance that you can base your price adjustments on. Create attractive discounts to increase the minimum order value of your store.

Loyalty rewards program

Once a customer, always a customer!

If you’d like to follow this motto, you might want to reward your existing customers or may even lure new customers by offering a discount on their first order.

Such discounts can help improve customer loyalty as well as in acquiring new customers.

Each of the strategies mentioned above helps boost sales and increase revenue. While you may already see the advantages, let’s cover the various benefits of dynamic pricing.

Benefits of WooCommerce dynamic pricing

From an increase in revenue to gaining customer insights, here are some of the WooCommerce dynamic pricing benefits.

Benefits of dynamic pricing

Increase in revenue

The most obvious one being that it helps increase sales and your income. Customers are always looking out for the best deals. What if you incorporate discounts as a regular feature on your WooCommerce store? You’d surely be able to bring in a lot more customers and revenue!

Boost sales of a specific product

Ever faced a situation where a particular product or a category of products were not selling? Then, try offering a discount!

Use the dynamic pricing strategy to entice customers into buying more. Be it for a specific period or until stocks last, create an attractive sale offer to sell more of the specific product or apply it to an entire category of products.

Ability to adapt to variable demands

Have you noticed a common trend in business?

If a product is high in demand, there are fewer chances of getting a discount. Alternatively, if a product is not in demand, you’d find all the various offers and discounts on them.

It’s all a demand and supply game!

Similarly, you can offer variable discounts based on the demand and the supply.

Left with only one product? Choose to offer a discount to clear inventory or hold on to the price.

For example, going by our earlier product example, if you have just one unit left, you’d either stick to the price and not offer a discount or offer a discount and sell it off. It’s better to sell, earn less than to sit on unsold inventory.

Another example can be if you are in the hospitality industry. Notice how the room rates are lower on the day you check-in? Well, you’ll probably agree it’s better to offer a discount and have the room filled up than get no revenue out of it. So next time you travel, watch out for those last-minute deals!

Based on the demand, make those price adjustments using the dynamic pricing strategy.

Beat competition, increase profit margins

Careful market research and keeping a close watch on your competitors can help increase your profit margins.

If there’s a demand for a particular product, you can increase its price yet offer attractive discounts based on the quantity purchased. This works best if you are procuring products directly from the supplier or you are the product owner.

Customer behavior insights

What products are your customers buying? Are they buying your products with or without discounts? How many products are they buying?

Such insights help you understand your customer behavior and buying patterns. And with such insights, you can plan your future marketing activities and pricing strategies accordingly.

How to set up dynamic pricing on your WooCommerce store

If you’re a WooCommerce store owner, you’ll probably agree that updating the store prices is relatively simple and straightforward.

But, what if you’d like to edit specific products and implement discounts, all on autopilot? Shouldn’t there be a much easier way?

With WordPress and WooCommerce, you know the solution lies with the use of a plugin.

We’ll use the WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing plugin for the how-to and will cover other popular plugins towards the end of this article.

First let’s set up dynamic pricing on our WooCommerce store.

There are three steps involved:

  1. Install a dynamic pricing plugin
  2. Create your pricing rules
  3. Test the pricing rules

Let’s get going!

Step 1: Select a WooCommerce dynamic pricing plugin

A very popular plugin is the WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing extension. From creating single product pricing, order pricing, roles pricing, categories pricing, the WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing extension offers you several options.

However, it comes at the cost of $129 per year. While the choice is left to you, for the sake of this article, we will walk you through the steps of enabling dynamic pricing using Dynamic Pricing With Discount Rules for WooCommerce.

Dynamic Pricing With Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin

While it does have a premium version with extra features, the free version should do just fine.

Head over to Plugins > Add New, install and activate the Dynamic Pricing With Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin.

Install dynamic pricing with discount WordPress plugin

Step 2: Create pricing rules

Once installed, head over to Pricing Rules > Pricing Rules.

Add new pricing rule

Considering this is the first time we are using this plugin, no product rules will be found. To create one, simply click on ‘+ Add New Rule.

You will now be presented with various options to create a new rule.

You start by creating a rule name under the Discount Settings tab. You can set a priority and activate it.

By setting a higher priority, you get to override any other rules that have been created. For instance, if you’ve created multiple discount rules, you can prioritize which one must be applied first.

Pricing rules discount settings

Among the various available options, you’d need to focus on the Discount Type.

Pricing rules discount type

This is where you select a particular discount type and create a rule. You can create rules based on the product, cart, and quantity.

In the free version, you will create a rule for the products on the whole. In the paid version, though, you will be able to select a particular product or category.

So, select the discount type and complete creating the rule.

For the sake of this article, we’ve selected ‘Quantity based discount’ under Quantity Rules.

Other pricing options include:

  • Single product pricing – bulk discounts or special offers
  • Order pricing
  • Role pricing
  • Category pricing– bulk discounts or special offers
Pricing rules discount type 2

As shown in the above image, a new set of options open up, selecting the discount type.

We’ve set a rule to apply a percentage discount of 40% for a minimum order of 5 products and a maximum of 10 units.

You can either publish this rule right away or schedule it to run from a specific date.

This can be achieved from the Schedule tab.

Pricing rule schedule

You can select a start and end date for the offer.

In the final tab, Rules and Restrictions, you get to set ‘rules and restrictions.’

Pricing rule rules and restrictions

For example, as shown above, you can create a rule to apply the discount for product prices based on a predefined condition. Similarly, rules can be applied to the cart as well.

Once you’ve completed, click on Publish.

One last step is to enable the status under Pricing Rules > Pricing Rules.

enable pricing rule status

Now, all that’s left is to test your discount pricing on the front end of your store.

Step 3: Test your discount pricing

Now that you’ve set up the dynamic pricing, let’s test how this looks on the front end.

You’ll now notice a ‘Quantity Discounts’ table on your product page.

Test your discount pricing

This will indicate the discount you’ve set up for the product.

If you add the minimum required quantity to qualify for the discount and proceed to checkout, you’ll notice the discount has been applied to your total.

Discount on checkout page

Now, didn’t we say this was simpler than you may have anticipated?

In the above example, we’ve covered how to set a discount rule when a minimum quantity is purchased. But is that the only discount strategy available?

Here are some of the popular discount strategies you can implement using dynamic pricing.

Popular discount strategies for your WooCommerce store

For this section, we will go ahead and install Advanced Dynamic Pricing for WooCommerce, which is yet another dynamic pricing plugin.

We’ll cover three pricing strategies:

  1. Bulk pricing discounts
  2. Based on product and category
  3. Based on customer profile

Install advanced dynamic pricing plugin

Go ahead, install and activate the plugin. Once completed, head over to WooCommerce > Pricing Rules.

Advanced dynamic pricing dashboard

Now, to create a new rule, simply click on Add rule.

Notice the various options available and the discount strategies you can create. From creating product filters, product discounts, cart adjustments, and so on, you can implement various discount strategies.

Add new rule Advanced dynamic pricing

Let’s now create dynamic pricing rules.

Bulk pricing discounts

The first one is bulk pricing discounts.

Start by entering in a title. And then click on Bulk rules to proceed.

Select from the options that are most relevant to your store requirements.

bulk pricing discount

For example, we’ve selected a percentage discount of 50% for a minimum order of 10 units up to a maximum order of 100 units. Once you’re done, click on Save changes.

Created rule

Your pricing rule has been created.

Front end results

The product page will display a bulk deal box indicating the pricing and discount we’ve just set, as shown in the above image.

Based on product and category

Another common strategy is by applying discounted pricing on products and categories. You could either create rules for an entire range of products and categories or selected ones.

To do so, click on Product filters after naming your rule.

discount based on product and categories

From the available options, you could choose from products, categories, tags, attributes, and so on. You could also go specific by excluding a particular product. Additionally, you can add multiple filters within the same rule by clicking on Add product filter.

Once you’ve completed, click on Save changes.

Based on customer profile

Would you like to offer pricing discounts based on the user role?

Head over to Settings > General, and you will notice a set of user roles under New User Default Role. If a customer is registered on your store, you can offer discounts based on the user profile.

To create a rule based on user roles, simply click on Role discounts under WooCommerce > Pricing Rules > Add rule.

discount based on customer profile

Name your rule and select a user profile from the auto-complete drop-down menu.

For example, as shown above, we’ve created a rule offering a discount of 20% to all our customers. Click Save changes once you’ve completed.

Similarly, you can create rules using the various options available. It’s all straightforward and simple. Plugins offer you a range of options, some of them being free, while others being paid.

Seos Video is a slightly different WordPress videos theme. We feature it not for its looks but for its function. There is a free and a premium version and both scream 1990s in design but work so well that we just had to feature them here. You can change the look of this theme in minutes, the framework that enables the site would take much longer.

This is a dark theme with grey background, dark grey content areas and gold/brown fonts. It’s a curious mix but spend a few seconds with the demo and you see why we included it.

How to choose a WordPress video theme

The official WordPress repository and third-party marketplaces offer thousands of WordPress themes. This makes shortlisting just a few themes a serious challenge!

To help simplify the selection process, here are some important factors you should consider when evaluating a theme:

The look and feel

The look and feel of a theme makes visitors stay and explore your website. It is all about presenting your content in a way that visitors find intuitive and easy.

The best WordPress video themes are simple – they focus on presenting your videos and other content without clutter and distractions.

Another important consideration is accessibility. You want all visitors to have a great experience on your website and be able to consume your content regardless of ability or device they are using.

A great way to test the look and feel of a theme is to check out the demos available at the official website or marketplace.

You can see the various features in action and see how content would look on a live website.

Customization options

It’s often the case that the theme that catches your eye often doesn’t offer the exact layout or color scheme to match your requirements.

All themes come with some customization options, but few offer extensive control over changing the design elements, colors, and fonts.

Certain themes come with a customizer panel that allows you to change the colors and fonts of the demo sites. Others use page builders like Elementor, Brizy and Beaver Builder.

If you can’t or don’t want to write code to change these options, look for a theme that integrates well with your preferred page builders. This way, you can drag-and-drop to change the theme’s design elements.

Responsive design

Given this, a responsive theme design that automatically scales to fit the user’s screen is a must-have requirement.

That’s why all modern WordPress themes have responsive design. However, you shouldn’t take their word for it.

A simple way to test theme responsiveness is to open a demo website in a new browser tab. Next, simply resize the tab to half of the original width and length by dragging back the lower-right corner. If the theme is responsive, all the design elements will rearrange to fit the reduced tab size.

Another simple test is to press F12 (in Chrome) and select ‘Toggle Device Toolbar’ in the top of the new navigation bar that appears. You can then select from a range of popular mobile devices to test.

Cross-browser compatibility

While Google Chrome has more than 60% market share, there is no guarantee that all visitors will use it. You need to ensure that the theme you select looks and feels good in all major browsers.

The simplest way of testing browser compatibility is to open up the theme demos in multiple browsers and do the responsiveness test to ensure the theme works in all browsers.

Plugin support

You might already have your preferred set of plugins that help take care of business.

All top theme developers extensively test their themes to ensure they are compatible with popular plugins but you should test before you commit

When you are considering a theme, check the documentation to see if the developers have listed compatible (or incompatible plugins). If it’s not there, it never hurts to ask for support.

SEO-Friendliness

A good portion of your website’s search engine optimization (SEO) efforts are directed toward optimizing the theme.

The reason is simple – the theme is responsible for presenting the content to the search engine bots. As such, if the theme doesn’t have clean code or doesn’t adhere to SEO best practices, chances are it could hurt your SEO scores.

When considering a theme, check the reviews for SEO best-practice compliance to save yourself a lot of headaches later on.

Performance

A theme’s performance is such an important aspect of SEO that it merits a special mention.

Performance is all about the page load speed.

Google considers it a vital factor in ranking websites. The common wisdom is that if your website doesn’t load up in under three seconds, the visitors would leave your website for the competition.

That’s why you should use a theme that emphasizes speed and performance and doesn’t slow down your website in any way.

Speed is a huge bragging right for WordPress themes. You’ll find almost every top theme mentioning the page load speed and related metrics prominently on the documentation and landing pages for that reason.

Updates

WordPress is an evolving ecosystem. Things are constantly changing as new ideas are introduced, and outdated ideas are deprecated.

Themes need to remain current with the latest WordPress version. Between the WordPress versions, theme developers release regularly updated versions that take care of bugs and performance issues.

All themes have a Last Updated attribute in their description. When considering a theme, make sure the theme has been updated in the last few months.

A good rule of thumb is to use a theme that has been updated over the last month. Any date beyond six months is a red flag that should make you consider your choice carefully.

Customer support

Customer support is what distinguishes good themes from great ones. From the initial setup to the regular use, things can go wrong. This is where you’ll realize the importance of customer support.

Support that helps you deal with the issues and keep your website ticking.

Generally, six to 12 months of customer support is included with the initial purchase. You can often then buy a subscription that extends the support and updates to a year.

Whether that extra subscription offers value or not depends on your experience level and ability to respond to issues.

While it costs money, it may be money well spent!

Translation support

WordPress users come from all over the world. Similarly, you might need to operate in a non-English market. These are just two scenarios where you need your website to be multilingual.

All popular themes are translation-ready and are already available in major languages. If that’s not the case, you need to ensure that the theme can be easily translated into the target language with minimum effort.

Creating a video website with WordPress

Creating a video website with WordPress is very straightforward. Since WordPress is designed to work with all kinds of content, it can handle all media types, including video

Alongside a great-looking WordPress theme, a fast web host, and some hard work, you could have your very own video website up and running within a couple of hours.

You will need:

A domain name and web host

A domain name is the www. name you put into your browser to visit a website. A web host is where you rent server space to install your website for the world to see.

Both can be acquired from a single company and should not cost much at all.

There are hundreds of web hosts out, there but we recommend the following:

  • SiteGround
  • InMotion
  • BlueHost
  • HostGator
  • Hostinger

Check out the top fastest managed WordPress hosting companies of 2023 here.

A WordPress installation

Some web hosts will automatically install WordPress on your hosting while others will provide software installers to make it easy to do it yourself.

Either way, for you to be able to create your video website, you will need a fully functioning copy of WordPress.

If you haven’t done this before, our complete guide on building a WordPress website might come in useful.

A WordPress videos theme

A WordPress theme is a graphic layer you add to the system to make it look unique.

WordPress has some free basic video themes to get you started, but it’s only when you add third-party themes that it really comes alive.

Third party themes like Astra, with over 250 website templates for you to use!

As with everything else, installing a theme is very straightforward:

  1. Buy or download a WordPress videos theme from this list
  2. Log into your WordPress website
  3. Select Appearance and Themes from the left menu of the WordPress dashboard
  4. Select the Add New button and select Upload
  5. Select the theme file you downloaded and upload it to WordPress
  6. Select Activate once the button becomes available

That’s it!

So, now you know how to set up your video website and upload a theme.

Ifyou think the player included with the theme doesn’t help you with the execution of your marketing strarties, we recommend you check out Presto Player, a WordPress video player plugin that fits seamlessly into your design and offers powerful tools to make the most of your videos.

Final thoughts

The breadth and quality of WordPress videos themes available are impressive. It was genuinely difficult to choose between those available but we think the 25 themes here represent the cream of the crop.

If you’re planning your own video website, for whatever purpose, you could do a lot worse than using one of these!

Each is flexible, compatible with video, fully responsive, and offers great value. What more do you need from a WordPress theme?

Astra provides some of the best website templates, check that out.

Do you use any of the WordPress video themes in this list? Have others to recommend? Tell us your thoughts below!

]]>
Everyone already knows that a big part of building a successful website is getting people to visit it. More traffic = a more successful site. Makes sense, right?

But here’s the thing that some people overlook:

Traffic helps achieve your goals

And conversion rate is what helps you determine that. Conversion is the percentage of people who do what you want (buy a product, sign up for your email list or fill out a form…) versus the total number of visitors to your website or landing page.

If you want your website to be successful, the number of people who convert is what matters.

But what actually makes a website generate conversions? How can you build your website, or your client’s website, so that it converts as many visitors as possible?

In this post, we’ll share 21 tips you can use to boost the conversion rates of websites you build with WordPress.

1. Define your goals

If you don’t know what action or benefit you’re hoping to get from driving traffic to your website, you’ll never be able to make it conversion-friendly.

So – step #1 in the journey to improving your conversion rate is to define the actual purpose and objectives for your page.

Typically, you will have one of these goals:

  • Sales – Getting people to buy a product from your website
  • Brand presence – Many businesses are just looking to provide information about their brand. For example, the Coca-Cola company website
  • Lead generation – Getting people to sign up for your email list or fill out a form
  • Calls – Getting people to call your business
  • Click through – Getting people through your sales funnel

Once you know exactly what you want to accomplish, you can use the rest of these tips to help you achieve that goal.

2. Identify your target audience

Once you know your page’s purpose, the next step is to define the type of person you’re hoping to reach, your target audience.

You should then create a website persona to be able to communicate with that audience.

By taking the time to write down the persona(s) you want to reach, you’ll be able to design your website specifically for those people.

By making your website more relevant to the people you want to reach the most, you make it more likely they will convert.

So personas matter. But how do you create them?

Basically, you want to build out a full profile of your target visitor by answering questions like:

  • How old are they?
  • What is their gender?
  • What is their education level?
  • Which industry do they work in?
  • How much work experience do they have?
  • Why are they coming to your site?
  • What problems do they face?
  • How technologically-savvy are they?

By the end, you can come up with a detailed profile that looks something like this:

Image of detailed profile

If you’re interested in learning more about user personas, Usability.gov has a detailed guide, which is also where the example above came from.

3. Show some personality

Image of unique personality

Some people have this idea that “you have to please everyone”, which often leads to a bland website with no personality.

Most visitors won’t feel excited or motivated by the boring “please everyone” approach.

Don’t be afraid to show your personality, especially if you’re a big part of your business (e.g. a freelancer, manager or co-founder).

Show your smiling face, or the smiling faces of your employees. Add a touch of your own voice and don’t be afraid to share some of your real personality.

Sure, there’s always the small chance that your personality turns someone off. But guess what? That person probably isn’t your target market, anyway!

Remember – you don’t have to please every single visitor. Just focus on connecting with your target audience.

That’s how you get a high conversion rate!

4. Your headline is the hook

Image of attractive headline

Newspaper advertising guru David Ogilvy knew back in the 1960s that most people just read the headline.

While a lot’s changed since then (hello websites, goodbye newspapers!), Ogilvy’s main point still stands:

Your headline is what grabs readers and encourages them to stick around.

The Nielsen Norman Group does evidence-based research on how people use websites, and here’s what they found:

“Users often leave Web pages in 10–20 seconds, but pages with a clear value proposition can hold people’s attention for much longer. To gain several minutes of user attention, you must clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds.”

Your headline is what lets you communicate that value proposition within 10 seconds, keep visitors on the page and eventually have a chance to convert them.

So what makes for a good headline?

Make it:

  • Clear and comprehensible. You don’t want people to have to guess what you’re trying to say. Remember, you only have 10 seconds
  • Make your value proposition obvious. This tells visitors what’s in it for them, and why they should bother to stay around and learn more
  • Stay customer focused. Use wording that focuses on the visitor, rather than yourself or your business whenever possible

If you need some inspiration, KickoffLabs has ten good examples of headlines that hook.

5. Content matters!

Image for content matters

If you get your headline right, visitors will understand your core value proposition and stick around to learn more.

Now, the rest of your content needs to deliver on the promise in the headline.

Spend the time to create content that keeps people reading and explain more about your business, product or offer.

This is also where you can show your personality and give readers the information they need to make a decision.

If you’re not sure what makes for good copy, Henneke, a successful copywriter, has great tips at Copyblogger and her Enchanting Marketing site.

6. Use one clear call to action

Once you’ve hit your visitors with the clear headline and quality content, your call to action (CTA) is what guides them to the next step.

For most websites, a CTA takes the form of a button. This button should be the step you want your visitors to take.

For example, on the Astra theme homepage, the CTA is “Download Now” because we want you to download the theme to see how awesome it is

Use of CTA image

You always want to have one primary CTA. You will see some sites successfully include a second CTA, but this almost always employs a less attention grabbing design.

If you browse the website templates for the Astra theme, you’ll notice that most of them have a single, clear CTA already in place so that they’re conversion-ready from day one.

You should follow a similar approach no matter who you’re building your website for.

Beyond design, the text on your CTA button matters, too.

To create a great CTA:

  • Use a command verb to imply action. For example, “Get…”, “Download…”, “Start…”
  • Add urgency with words like “Now” or “Today
  • Appeal to deal-seekers with words like “Free” (if applicable) or “Save

If you need more inspiration, WordStream has another good article on CTAs and AdEspresso put together a great list of 31 examples.

7. Build credibility and trust

Image for build trust

You’re more likely to interact with someone you trust, right?

Well, it’s no different for your readers. They want to buy from, sign up to, and just generally use credible websites that they trust.

So how do you create that trust and credibility?

It all starts with website design. While people say you should never judge a book by its cover, we all know they do.

People will definitely judge your website by its cover!

If your website doesn’t look professional, people won’t trust it. And people form their impressions remarkably quickly – even before reading a single line of text.

In a study from Behaviour & Information Technology, researchers found that people make a decision about a website’s visual appeal in as little as 50 milliseconds.

Once you have a professional design, you can use other tactics and features to further build trust and credibility:

  • Logos – Logos of places you’ve worked with or been featured by can help build credibility by association
  • Testimonials – Authentic testimonials show that other people trust you, which builds trust by itself (more on this below)
  • Security badges – Using trust badges or seals builds trust. ConversionXL has good research on the most effective trust badges
  • HTTPS/Green Padlock 90% of surveyed users were “more likely to leave details or purchase when they know that their data is sent over a secure connection”

8. Use social proof

Image for social proof

Social proof is a well-studied psychological phenomenon where people base their own actions on the actions they see from others.

While it’s by no means limited to websites, it’s one of the most effective elements to further build trust and convince people to convert.

So much so, most conversion optimization experts say it’s an element that your site can’t afford to be without.

You can implement social proof in several different ways, some of which you’ve seen before:

  • Social follower counts from your profiles
  • Numbers – For example, “Join 30,000 other subscribers”, “Over 40,000 happy customers”
  • Testimonials and reviews
  • Places you’ve been featured
  • Friendship – For example, use the Facebook like button to show people some of their friends who have liked your site.
  • Credible certifications – For example, “USDA Certified Organic”

9. Use scarcity to spur action

All of the other tips on this page encourage people to act. But none specifically encourages people to act now. And you definitely want people to act right away.

Otherwise, they might forget about you and all that work you’ve done on conversion optimization goes to waste!

Scarcity is how you add urgency to your site. Once you understand what scarcity is, you’ll start seeing it everywhere.

For example, Amazon shows how many items are remaining, as well as how long you have to order to get it delivered by a certain date.

Image for sense of urgency

Every hotel booking site in existence will tell you how many rooms are left and how quickly they are being taken.

So what are some ways that you can add urgency to your website?

  • Use a special time-limited offer or coupon
  • Highlight a limited number of items or otherwise restricted availability
  • Add a countdown timer

Creating a limited time offer with a countdown timer can create a sense of urgency to purchase products and services immediately or lose the opportunity.

If you can’t use real urgency, you can still add something called implied urgency by incorporating words like “now”, “today”, “soon”, and similar phrases.

10. K.I.S.S.

Keep it simple image

Since you have established urgency, don’t make it hard for your clients to see what to do next, where and how to do it.

Keep things as simple as possible.

It can be tempting to add lots of images, effects, and text, especially now that drag and drop page builders have made it possible to add new elements with just a few clicks.

Resist the urge!

When you build a website, you’re not trying to win a design award. You’re trying to meet specific goals.

Eliminate elements that are just there to look nice and focus on the elements that will get results (like all the stuff we talked about above!).

11. Keep readers focused

Keep the focus

Another way of keeping things simple is by eliminating distractions.

Don’t pull your clients in too many different directions. Instead, focus on what we have discussed earlier which is a single clear call to action and talk only about things that they need to know.

Stick to your goal and focus only on the following:

  • Your headline and its subheadings
  • The features and benefits of your products or services
  • Reviews and testimonials
  • Clear context with visuals

If you want to know where visitors are looking on a page, try using a heatmap analyzing tool to track them.

Website heatmap is an analytical tool that can help you understand the behavior of visitors by showing which part of your website they are clicking on.

If they are clicking on unnecessary product options, links and excessive information, it will decrease the conversion rate for your website.

Try to minimize or totally do away with elements that may distract your prospects to keep them focussed on thinking about what they need to do next.

12. Use popups properly

Popups can be annoying and/or distracting for visitors. But if you learn how and when to use popup properly, it can generate a high conversion rate.

Image for use of popup

Sometimes, visitors are undecided and are still looking for more specific features or products.

Then you can use popups to offer premium content, other similar products, freebies, and other offers until the visitor converts.

Keep your popup timely and related to the clients’ current interests.

A slight delay in your popup can make it irrelevant and annoying.

To avoid this negative impression, make it easier for visitors to close your popup. You can also use a cookie to make sure that your popup appears only once for every visitor.

13. Use simple form fields

Image for simple form fields

Another annoying part of a website is filling in too many form fields.

If you really need to include forms on your website, use only the fields essential to achieve your goal and remove unnecessary fields.

Visitors won’t mind signing up if there are only a few form fields to fill. But if your form fields are lengthy, they will start to think twice.

People will immediately close your website if from the very start they have to fill-in lengthy form fields.

We recommend starting by only asking for their name and email address.

Ask for the minimum early on and save any other data collection for further down the funnel.

People will be much more likely to share information once they have built a relationship with you.

14. Add live chat and talk to visitors

Add live chat feature image

Another effective way of encouraging your visitors to take the steps is by offering to chat.

They can ask specific details about what you are offering and what benefits they can get.

A live chat feature creates an impression that you are confident with your products that you can talk about it and address any concerns your client has in mind.

It also reassures them that you’re happy to invest time and effort in answering those questions and making sure they have everything they need.

It also helps with building credibility and trust as we discussed earlier.

Live chat tools are easy to add to your website and are very helpful in objection handling and tackling any last minute resistance to purchase.

15. Offer a money back guarantee

Offering a money back guarantee is a simple but very effective way to remove doubts about a purchase.

Money-back guarantee image

Consumers avoid risks and like to make sure that they get what they paid for. If not, they can get their money back.

Offering a money back guarantee makes your customers feel more confident and secure enough to purchase.

An easy, secure and risk free shopping experience is the best reason for customers to buy your products or services.

This helps increase your conversion rate and can encourage repeat purchases.

16. Include a countdown timer for a limited-time offer

Include countdown timer

Since what you have to offer is easy, secure and too good to resist, giving them a limited time offer will create a sense of urgency to avail of your products and services immediately or lose the chance.

Adding a countdown timer in your limiter-offer sign will quickly boost your conversion rate.

This will also give more satisfaction to your clients and make them feel lucky to be one of the few customers who have availed of your limited offer.

17. Perform A/B testing

Perform A/B testing image

The best tip we can give to improve satisfaction and conversion is to do A/B testing across your website.

A/B testing, or split testing, is a tool to test your website’s conversion rate. It allows you to make two versions of your website (webpage A and webpage B) with different designs.

An A/B testing tool will direct 50% of your site visitors to webpage A and 50% to webpage B.

You can then use data to help refine your layout or design and decide which page is best.

18. Address client objections

Address to client's question image

In sales, “No” often means “Not now”.

If a visitor says no, it doesn’t mean they don’t like your product or service. Most of the time it only means that it is not the product they are looking for at the moment.

They still have some doubts, or they are just not sure what they really want.

To avoid objections, you need to list all the possible objections that your customers might have and provide the answers on your website.

List as many as you can and add FAQ sections on your homepage and product or service pages.

This should overcome any objections and help increase conversions.

19. Make it easy for people to buy

Make it easy for customers

A key element of a successful conversion is making it as easy as possible for someone to buy.

Always guide visitors on what to do next, where to proceed and how to pay for purchases.

Streamline your sales funnel, keep checkout short and sweet and ask for as little information as possible to help complete the sale.

If you can enable guest checkout, that’s an easy win that could encourage more customers to buy. Here’s a guide on how to accept payments with WordPress.

20. Choose your offer carefully

Image for another offer

If your website is still not generating high conversion rates, maybe you’re just using the wrong offer.

Continue to experiment on your offers and track the results of each product or service.

Use A/B testing, use customer surveys, use social media to get feedback and experiment until you find the best offer that generates a high conversion rate.

21. Use abandoned cart tools to increase conversions

Just because someone didn’t complete conversion and left your website, doesn’t mean you have lost the sale.

Abandoned cart tools can help recover those lost sales in a (mostly) unintrusive way.

Using tools like CartFlows, you can send followup emails if a visitor leaves checkout before completing it.

As long as you can capture their email address before they leave, you can configure the tool to send emails to help recapture that lost sale.

Once configured, abandoned cart tools can automatically help recover lost sales. It’s an easy win for very little effort.

Save time with conversion-ready website templates

Building a conversion-ready website from the ground up takes time.

When you use the Astra theme, you don’t have to start at ground zero. We’ve baked all these conversion principles into the templates in our Starter Templates pack.

When you use one of these templates, you’ll instantly have a conversion-ready foundation that you can adapt to your needs.

My 5 biggest frustrations with WordPress https://wpastra.com/resources/biggest-frustrations-with-wordpress/ https://wpastra.com/resources/biggest-frustrations-with-wordpress/#respond Thu, 17 Aug 2023 09:36:04 +0000 https://wpastra.com/?p=161388 My 5 biggest frustrations with WordPress Read More »

]]>
I have a love/hate relationship with WordPress. I love it because it’s so powerful, flexible and has democratized the web like nothing else before it.

I love it so much, I built my entire business around it.

I also hate WordPress because it can be complicated, time consuming and has so many moving parts. It also needs work to turn it into a secure, efficient platform to host a website.

That’s why my business is built around helping people learn it and get the best out of it!

I know I’m not alone with these mixed feelings about WordPress.

From discussions I have with others in the industry, the platform divides as much as it enables.

And that’s fine.

Because for every frustration WordPress provides, there’s an equal or superior solution.

The frustrations of WordPress

WordPress is an amazing platform. It is capable of so much, is completely free and open source, has an amazing community of developers, contributors and users.

But boy does it have its challenges!

It’s the same with any complex piece of engineering. The more people it tries to please, the more solutions it tries to deliver and the more flexible it tries to be, the more complicated it becomes.

The modular nature helps a lot, but there’s still a lot of frustration with WordPress.

Here are a few of my personal frustrations:

1. Lots of dependencies

To create a WordPress website, you need a domain name, web host, a WordPress installation, a theme, plugins and content.

Finding an available domain name can take forever. It becomes confusing to understand the exact plan that anyone should opt for.

Many web hosts will either install WordPress automatically or use an installer like Softaculous, but it still takes time.

I did my bit by creating the Astra WordPress theme and making it as easy as possible to set up, but it’s still another moving part.

Then there’s plugins. There are over 50,000 of them, each with their own developer, quality and price.

2. The learning curve

There’s a learning curve to everything, from figuring out your new phone to how to turn on the air conditioning.

While everything about WordPress is easy once you know how, there’s so much to learn.

How databases work, how plugins work, how to set up a theme, how to create a page, the difference between pages and posts, taxonomy, hierarchy, the list goes on.

3. Security challenges

Let me preface this by saying that the core WordPress platform is pretty secure. But as soon as you begin adding plugins and extra users, vulnerabilities begin to appear.

WordPress is as popular with the darker side of humanity as it is with the rest of us. Hackers and scammers spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to attack it.

Defense in depth is always the right approach, but that’s yet another learning curve, yet another set of systems to learn and to manage and more plugins to install.

4. WordPress updates

WordPress is frequently updated to improve the user experience, fix bugs, address vulnerabilities and add new features.

The team works tirelessly to make WordPress better for everyone.

But those updates bring their own headaches.

Even though WordPress can update itself and introduced automatic updates for plugins, there are still so many moving parts to manage.

If you update WordPress, you have to update plugins so the code remains compatible. But if you do it automatically, you risk downtime in case a plugin doesn’t work or crashes your site.

So you must do it manually. Every few weeks. Then test the updates to make sure they all work before they impact customers.

5. Performance

WordPress has a reputation for slowing websites down. It’s a complex beast that needs to consult a database, build a page and send it to the user.

While the results can be amazing, it all takes time.

There’s a good reason why there are so many WordPress performance plugins!

I built Astra to be as lightweight and load as fast as possible. But the theme is only part of the equation.

As good as Astra is, it cannot overcome the inevitable complexities that slow down page load times.

Why WordPress is so popular

As I said in the very beginning, I love WordPress even though it frustrates me.

It’s an exceptional platform, it’s free, it’s flexible, it’s modular and it’s improving all the time.

It doesn’t power 43% of the web for nothing!

So why do I love it so much?

1. Strong community

I’m fortunate enough to play a minor role in how WordPress grows and develops but I’m one tiny piece of a huge community.

There’s the core community of developers and contributors. There’s the vital community of testers and further contributors.

Then there’s arguably the most important community of all.

The users, fans and the millions of people around the world that use WordPress.

There are few other products anywhere that have such a loyal following that actively contributes to its future.

That community provides direction, guidance, assistance and everything a positive group of people can provide.

It’s more than enough to restore my faith in humanity!

2. Extensive customization options

Customization is a core feature of WordPress. Whether you know code or not, you can do literally anything with it.

Even though plugins add their own frustrations, the number of page builders, header and footer plugins, block plugins and features built into WordPress make it a pleasure to use.

Even though WordPress powers millions of websites and over 2.4 million people have tried Astra, it is still possible to create something truly unique.

3. Open to everyone

WordPress is free and open source. Anyone anywhere can use it. If you have a computer and an internet connection, you can use WordPress.

There’s no pay to enter, no subscription, no entry requirements and no skills prerequisites.

While the learning curve has its frustrations, it isn’t insurmountable.

As I said earlier, there’s nothing overly complicated you need to learn. There’s just lots of it to learn.

I love the open nature of WordPress and it’s one of the things that attracted me to it.

Everyone can build a website if they want to. Shop savvy and it doesn’t have to cost that much either!

4. SEO benefits

SEO, Search Engine Optimization is the art of being found. With over a billion websites out there, SEO is what helps you find your tribe.

WordPress is structured to help with search. It also has dozens of high quality SEO plugins that can be set up and left to do their work.

Even someone like me who doesn’t know all that much about SEO can set up a plugin and begin appearing in search!

5. Flexibility

Want to build a blog? WordPress can do it. Want to build a business website? WordPress can do it. Want to build an online store? WordPress can do that too.

Whatever type of website you want to build, however you want it to look or behave, WordPress can do it.

That flexibility is a major selling point of the platform and one of the reasons it’s so popular.

There are plugins to add a forum, eCommerce plugins, sliders, video showcases and literally anything you can think of.

You can pick and choose any compatible plugin to build any type of website you like.

Check these out to see what I mean.

Time Magazine

Time Magazine

Time Magazine uses a blog theme. It’s a clean design with minimal distractions to let the content shine. It’s accessible and engaging and reflects Time’s brand

Want to build a WordPress website without the hassle of installing a theme, setting up plugins, building pages and filling them with content?

I have the solution.

It’s called ZipWP.

My development team, Adam Preiser and I developed ZipWP specifically to address our main frustrations with WordPress. Namely the time it takes to set everything up, add content, source decent images and publish a fully operational website.

ZipWP

ZipWP uses AI, the Astra theme and some clever programming to create a full, first draft website in 60 seconds or less.

That’s a full website, complete with relevant pages, a functioning contact form, AI generated content and royalty-free images.

In less than a minute.

All you need to do is provide a short description of your business and ZipWP will do the rest.

Once complete, you’ll be able to take a tour, customize your site, add your unique content and images and export it to your web host.

If that wasn’t enough of a superior solution, how about this?

ZipWP is completely free to use. No credit card required.

Your website will remain live on our server for 24 hours to give you enough time to explore and export it.

If you build websites for a living, a more powerful version of ZipWP is in the works.

Working with WordPress

I may have a love/hate relationship with WordPress but I wouldn’t want to work with anything else.

There are too many upsides to the platform and too many things you can do with it. Plus, WordPress has the same values as I do.

It’s inclusive, open, available to everyone, has no barriers to entry and can be anything you want it to be.

That’s my kind of platform!

If you love WordPress but would prefer more productivity and fewer frustrations, check out ZipWP. It could be the solution you’ve been looking for!

New features in the Spectra plugin ✨

Dynamic Content Extension

Any typical content, let’s say static content, doesn’t change unless you update it manually and publish the page.

You will mostly see such static content on your contact page, homepage and so on. But have you noticed how your blog archive page automatically updates recent blogs whenever you publish new blogs?

Any website’s blog page is a good example of a page with dynamic content. But that’s too limited as a default feature.

What if you get to design a particular section using these dynamic powers?

Spectra Pro allows you to display text and images dynamically across your site with Spectra blocks!

You can spice up your website by showing images and text dynamically!

Add data from various sources like Current Post, Post Type, Archive Description, Archive Title, Archive Custom Field, Site Tagline, Site Title, and many more. Even shortcodes and custom fields work magically.

To display that data, Spectra Pro allows you a complete flexibility of choosing your own source field that you want to import and display.

Dynamic Content Extension

Spectra Pro keeps it seamless with easy updates and fallbacks for missing content.

Plus, you can unlink blocks effortlessly! No more static boredom!

Animations

Animations bring your Spectra blocks to life!

Enjoy free animations for free, or go pro for advanced control over delay, duration, and easing options.

Go to Advanced Settings on any Spectra block, and you will find animation options for free.

However, Spectra Pro brings advanced features to the same animations.

  • Animation Duration – It will help you make your animation effect appear slow or fast by setting the runtime.
  • Animation Delay – It will help you make your animation effect appear early or late by setting up a delay.
  • Animation Easing – Setting up different animation easing effects allows you to set a speed at specific intervals. There are 4 modes – Linear, Ease In, Ease Out, and Ease In Out.
  • Play Repeatedly on Scroll – Enabling this option lets your user see the same animation while scrolling. If disabled, the animation will just appear once.
Animations

Popup Builder

Spectra Pro lets you build eye-catching popups and info bars throughout your website to redirect your audience to your pages of choice or simply display a notice.

Enjoy customizable info bars and popups for free.

Go pro to choose triggers like on load, exit intent, or custom class.

Are you tired of seeing website visitors slip through your fingers without turning into customers? Do you stay awake at night wondering how to turn website visitors into paying customers?

If so, you’ve landed in the perfect spot.

In this article, we’ll share the 10 best WordPress sales funnel plugins that could revolutionize your online business.

They can empower you to increase conversions, boost customer engagement, capture leads and generate the revenue you’ve always dreamed of.

Let’s start by learning a little more about sales funnels.

What is a sales funnel?

Sales funnel working

A sales funnel is marketing speak for the journey someone takes from being a visitor to converting into a paying customer. It typically covers awareness, interest, desire and action, AIDA for short.

You probably see sales funnels every day, just don’t realize it.

A sales funnel works as a guide, nudging potential customers in the right direction through a journey toward making a purchase.

The AIDA model is tried and tested and has proven very effective at turning visitors into customers.

The four AIDA stages include:

1. Awareness

Imagine you’re exploring the WordPress marketplace looking for a theme for your website. A stunning theme grabs your attention because of its elegant design layout and features.

That’s the awareness stage, where you become aware of a professional theme that could make your website something extraordinary.

2. Interest

Your awareness nudges you to learn more about the theme. You discover an endless amount of customization options, flexible functionalities, user-friendly interfaces and promising features.

It seems the theme perfectly aligns with your project. Welcome to the interest stage, where you can’t help but learn more about the theme.

3. Desire

Now, you dive deep into exploring customer support. You read success stories from existing users. You also learn about compatibility with other plugins. You’re convinced that the theme will solve your problem.

That’s the stage where you can connect your problem with the solution, which creates a desire to buy the product.

4. Action

It’s time to take action. You know what the product is, what it does and how it can help solve your problem. You press the buy now button and complete the purchase.

Congratulations, you’ve reached the action stage!

Hold on, the journey isn’t over yet!

Your customer is now in the retention stage. You can offer them more related products for purchase and ask them to join your newsletter to get free tutorials and product updates and request them to give a positive product review.

AIDA sales funnel

A real life sales funnel in action

Before we get to the sales funnel plugins, let’s just share a real life example of a sales funnel in action.

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services in the world. It got to that position partly because it uses sales funnels so effectively.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Netflix homepage – Outlines the offer, the features and benefits and handles objections by specifying no contract. This takes care of the awareness stage.
Netflix homepage
  1. The pricing page – Outlines the price, what’s included, the features and benefits of membership to turn awareness into interest and desire.
Netflix pricing page
  1. The conversion page – A clever page that doesn’t mention payment until you’re already invested by setting up an account. This is the start of the action stage.
The conversion page

The messages at each stage of the sales funnel are simple, direct and to the point. They are also conversational and mention common pain points like not liking paperwork.

This sales funnel is probably one reason why Netflix has 232.5 million paid subscribers worldwide in 2023.

Now you have seen a sales funnel in action, let’s get to those plugins so you can build your own!

The next big update to WordPress, version 6.3, is almost here!

We expect it to be released on 8 August 2023 and to revolutionize the way we build websites.

So what’s in WordPress 6.3? What’s changing? What’s new? What do we need to know?

As our business is based around WordPress, we have been watching developments carefully.

Our colleague Adam Preiser managed to get an early release version of WordPress 6.3. He shared what he learned with us so we think we have a good idea of what to expect.

He created a sneak peek video where he shares insights into WordPress 6.3:

If video isn’t your thing, we’re going to share what we know in this post.

We’ll cover:

  • Site Editor navigation enhancements
  • Block styles
  • Revision history
  • New block pattern system
  • Distraction-free mode
  • Command palette
  • Smaller changes in WordPress 6.3

Let’s get into it!

Site Editor navigation enhancements

The WordPress site editor has seen some serious improvements.

First up is navigation. Previously, if you wanted to edit a page, you would have to open Pages, select the page you want to customize, open it in your page builder or block editor, select the block you want to customize, select the settings icon and make your change.

Now, all you need to do is select Appearance > Editor.

Site Editor navigation enhancements

This will open up a whole new world of editing.

Once you’re in the black navigation menu, you can select the name of the area you want to customize in that menu and it will open in the main window.

There’s an < icon to go back at any time and keep navigation simple.

To re-enter the menu if it closes, select the black WordPress icon at the top left corner of the screen.

From the menu you can make any change you like, see it in real time and then see the change implemented within the design.

It’s a very fluid system that drastically reduces the number of clicks required to get where you need to go.

Rather than going back and forth between the WordPress dashboard and the page you want to customize, you transition between them all smoothly from the navigation menu.

You can also duplicate, delete and rename sections from within that same navigation menu.

Page and post navigation

The new navigation menu is cool right? What if we told you that you can also navigate to pages and posts in exactly the same way?

No more going to Pages, selecting a page and then Open with.

Now, just open the Pages navigation menu on the left, select your page and it opens.

page and post navigation

The same for posts.

You can then click the pencil icon at the top of the left menu and edit as you see fit. Then just hit the blue Save button at the top to save your changes without leaving the screen!

Then hit the black WordPress icon to go back to the navigation menu.

The new navigation setup allows you to select pages, posts, page templates, store products and more from a single selection.

It’s a fantastic way to work and should save a ton of time!

Block styles

Block themes use styles to create a coherent look across the site. That’s changing slightly in WordPress 6.3.

In standard WordPress themes like Astra, you can set the color palette early on when importing a Starter Template. You can revisit it later if you like via the Astra dashboard.

WordPress 6.3 makes this style available in Styles, accessible from the new navigation menu.

Block styles

You’ll be presented with whatever styles are designed with the block theme and can change them on the fly. You’ll see the change immediately in the main window.

You can also access the theme’s style book from this menu too.

Select the eye icon at the top of the left menu to open a page with every variant of fonts, headings, blog post layouts, buttons and other page elements.

The cool thing about this new feature is that you can customize any element within those default styles and it will automatically be reflected wherever you use it.

How much time will that save?

Revision history

Elementor users have often cited the built-in revision history as being a primary reason for using the page builder.

The ability to roll back and undo changes is a key benefit to anyone that builds websites.

You’ll be able to do the same with WordPress 6.3.

At the bottom of the new navigation menu you’ll see Last modified. You should also see a time when the page was last modified and an undo icon.

Revision History

Click the icon and you’ll open a new pane with a Revisions menu on the right and previous versions of the page in chronological order.

Click one to see the changes and save it to revert to that earlier version.

You’ll also see when the page was changed and more importantly, who changed it.

This version control could be incredibly useful for agencies or where people collaborate on projects!

New block pattern system in WordPress 6.3

If you have used Spectra or other page builder, you’ll probably have played around with block patterns. They let you create page sections using individual blocks and save the whole thing as a reusable pattern.

WordPress 6.3 does something similar, but better.

Select the Patterns menu from the left navigation pane and you open up a new page with all the block patterns supported by the theme you’re using.

New block pattern system

For example, let’s say you want to create a CTA banner for every page on your site.

Select the Patterns menu, select the Call to Action elements, select the three dots underneath a pattern to access the Copy to My Patterns command.

New block pattern system in WordPRess 6.3

Your pattern will open in a new pane. Select an element in the pattern to customize, rinse, repeat and save.

Once saved, you can load your new CTA pattern on every page you want it to appear with a single click.

Another massive time saver!

Distraction-free mode

Distraction-free mode is perfect for anyone that works in a busy agency or who are prone to being disturbed or distracted while working.

It removes many UI elements within the editing window so you can concentrate on the changes you’re making.

To access distraction-free mode, select the three dots at the top right of an editing window and select Distraction free.

Distraction free mode

To escape distraction-free mode, move the cursor to the top of the screen and you’ll see a menu slide down, just uncheck Distraction free to go back to the full window.

It’s a smaller feature update but an important one if you prefer to minimize distractions while you work.

Command palette

The command palette probably isn’t what you think. It actually has nothing to do with color or design.

It’s an amazing new shortcut included with WordPress 6.3. It brings up a search popup where you can search for literally anything on your website.

Select Command + K (Mac) or Control + K (Windows) and you’ll see a small window appear.

Type anything into there and WordPress will search for it.

Commend palette

For example, type ‘contact’ in there and you’ll see a link to your contact page. Type ‘home’ and WordPress will show a link to your homepage.

What’s even better is that third parties will be able to integrate with this feature.

Thanks to our early access, SureCart is already integrated with the command palette.

For example, with SureCart installed, you can type ‘product’ into the window and you’ll see an Add new product item and any existing products you may have.

Select one and it opens in the window.

If you run a busy store, that’s going to be a real timesaver!

You can use the command palette to create new pages, access the menu and any common task.

You can also program your own commands. If you know code, you can register a command so you can fully customize this new function to your own particular needs.

Notice the mention of ZipWP? It’s a new AI website generation plugin that’s on the horizon that we are very excited about.

Smaller changes in WordPress 6.3

WordPress 6.3 also brings smaller changes too, such as:

A new Footnotes block – Useful for academic pages, stats and formal pages where footnotes are relevant.

The Details block – An accordion-style block where you can hide spoilers, use for hiding answers or similar.

Performance improvements – While not exactly a small improvement, most of this is under the hood so we don’t know the details. Suffice to say, WordPress should load much, much faster as a result. Initial estimates a performance increase of 20%!

Block theme preview – A new function that enables you to preview a WordPress theme before activating it. It’s a useful feature that lets you see what a theme includes within WordPress.

Assistant – You may notice a new entry in the top menu of WordPress called Assistant. This is a minor update that opens a side menu on the right where you can quickly navigate to pages, posts, patterns, block templates and more.

Waiting for WordPress 6.3

As you can see, WordPress 6.3 is mainly about making working with WordPress easier.

It’s going to be much more fluid to use, require fewer clicks, less time and should involve fewer journeys in and out of the WordPress dashboard.

Add that 20% performance upgrade, command palette and the assistant and you have a raft of features designed to make your life easier!

We already love working with WordPress. But these new updates? They take that to another level!

What are you most looking forward to?

Have you ever Googled yourself?

Sure you have.

You’re not alone. We’ve all done it at one time or another, even if it’s just out of curiosity.

Other people are also searching for your name online.

Depending on what they find, they’ll forge an opinion about you that will benefit or harm you depending on how well you have crafted your online personal brand.

People search for you before hiring you, before buying your digital product or just to learn more about you before they start following and trusting you.

Building a powerful online personal brand is more important than ever.

In this guide we’ll give you the best tips to create an amazing one.

From obscurity to notoriety – How to dazzle your target audience with an awesome online personal brand

Why online personal branding is important

People no longer ask their friends for their opinion about a person. They ask Google.

They can find a wide range of opinions there which will give them a more honest and less biased view of reality.

That’s why having a website and an online personal brand is so important.

Strong personal branding is the lever that will push your personal and professional career forward.

Let’s look at Adam Preiser who has been building and working on his personal brand for over a decade.

Adam Preiser Expertise

Thanks to having a hard-earned personal brand, he didn’t have to start from scratch when he launched his new suite of SureCrafted products.

If you go to the SureMembers website and see that he is the founder, you automatically start to trust the product, because if you trust the person, you trust the product, right?.

SureMembers with Adam

Adam has a lot of experience with WordPress and that expertise expands and spreads all around him.

Not only to his own products but also to those of third parties that he recommends.

Adam recommends Astra theme

Once he has a successful personal brand, Adam can sell much more easily, which translates into a better income.

If you don’t want to freelance but to work in a good company, a carefully crafted online presence will also help with that.

If you would have to hire a person:

Would you pay more attention to the one who just gives you a CV, or to the one who backs up his experience with an online presence?

No matter how you look at it.

Building your online personal brand only has advantages.

So let’s get started.

How to build a powerful online personal brand in 3 steps

So, how do you create an online presence that helps you stand out, establish credibility and attract new opportunities?

In this guide we’ve simplified the process into 3 simple steps:

  1. Define your personal brand.
  2. Establish your online presence.
  3. Grow your personal brand.

Step 1. Define your personal brand

Before building anything, you must know what you want to build.

In this context it means defining your personal brand.

Values

Values are the beliefs that guide your actions. They help you represent who you are.

But most importantly, they help you connect with your followers at an emotional level. That’s why you should share them.

If humor is of great value for you, show it when creating and growing your personal brand.

What do you want people to picture when they think of you?

If you’re having trouble coming up with some ideas, here’s a list of 100+ values and beliefs that you can analyze to find out which ones you feel more identified with.

In Adam’s case, simplicity is a very important value. It’s something he conveys in his tutorials and especially in his products.

To build a strong personal brand, I always go back to the famous Zig Zigler quote, “You Can Have Everything In Life You Want, If You Will Just Help Enough Other People Get What They Want.”
It boils down to being generous, I try to personally help as many people as possible.
– Adam Preiser

Target audience and goal

Defining a target audience and a goal will also help improve engagement with your audience.

In this case on a more rational level.

Adam goal and target audience
  • Target audience: Non-techie.
Are you a non-techie person? → Adam is your guy.
  • Goal: The website you always wanted.
Do you want a great website? → He can help you with it.

If you need information to create or improve your website in a simple way without using code, you’ll associate that thought with Adam.

PRO TIP:

If you find it difficult to define your personal brand, think about what you would like the headline of a newspaper to say about you.

e.g. “This online entrepreneur helps parents (audience) to raise children in an environmentally friendly way (goal).”

Unique selling proposition

This step is kind of optional, but can be important for your online personal brand.

You can be unique in your hometown, but online you’ll find a lot of people that share your values, your target audience and your goals.

Coming up with a unique selling proposition will set you apart from them.

This USP is defined easier when we talk about a product or service rather than a personal brand.

But here is a tip.

What’s more unique than your personal experience?

Do you want to learn about WordPress from a random blogger or from someone who has the experience of having founded several very successful plugins and tools?

Look and feel

We live in a visual world where we’re able to recognize and remember everything around us.

Coca Cola is red and fun and Astra is purple and casual.

The design of your personal brand is important. And we’re not talking only about colors and fonts.

If your value is simplicity your online presence should reflect that in your written content or in your photos.

You should choose a style in line with the values and goals you have defined. But what’s more important is to use that style consistently.

Try to find a photo in this article where Adam is not wearing a black t-shirt!

And here’s another little trick.

What’s more personal than yourself?

Unless you have a twin brother or sister, your face is unique, use it!

Step 2. Establish your online presence

It’s time to start building everything you just designed in the previous step.

Analyze your current situation

When we talk about online presence we usually refer to Google search results, since most people will search for us using this tool.

We only usually pay attention to the top ten search results

Having about 5 results under your control is more than enough since people don’t usually scroll much further than that.

The idea of controlling these positions is that you can tweak them as much as possible so people see what you want them to see about you.

Adam Preiser Search result

Adam is in control of the top Google rankings when people search for his name.

He can modify his content and appearance on demand to adapt it to the image he wants to portray.

Create your website

The top 1 position in Google gets the highest percentage of clicks. That’s why you should create a website and rank it there.

This is usually simple if you are trying to position your personal name, which we recommend you use for the domain itself (e.g. firstnamesurname.com)

Within your own website you’ll have full freedom to tailor your online presence to your liking and prevent your content and persona from becoming mixed up with other elements like with Twitter or other social network.

Astra and Starter Templates can help you get a quality website in a matter of minutes.

Personal brand site example

Sign up for social media and other platforms

Your website is one of the most important assets when it comes to personal branding.

But you also have to fill the rest of Google’s top positions!

Social media platforms are the perfect way to do it.

You should pay special attention to LinkedIn as many companies also use its internal search engine to find not only workers but also occasional collaborators to do interviews or hire as speakers.

Adam Preiser LinkedIN

Remember that Google results are displayed with priority.

So after your website and probably LinkedIn, maybe you should not focus on ranking a generic social network like Twitter or Facebook.

There are other platforms that can boost your personal brand more effectively:

  • Behance if you’re a designer.
  • Github if you’re a developer.
  • Fiverr if you’re a freelancer.
  • And so on.
Fiverr

Create consistent usernames and profile images across all of them and keep the same overall style that you have defined on your website.

The most important thing to remember is that you must set a priority for the websites you want to appear in Google and work on them in that order.

Step 3. Grow your personal brand

Defining and creating a digital space for your personal brand is not enough if you don’t make it grow.

Growing your brand will help you strengthen it, establish your credibility, and position yourself as an expert in your field.

Create content

Creating content is a very effective way to grow because you’ll be able to reach more people organically.

The most common method is to write articles on your blog, create posts on social networks or share videos on YouTube.

All of these help with reach.

PRO TIP:

Although podcasts may not have as much growth potential as other options, they greatly improve engagement and your brand image, as the voice is a very personal and relatable element.

Don’t forget to create premium content such as books or online courses. Their reach is smaller but they help a lot to position yourself as an expert.

Curate content

Content curation is a relatively easier way to become a reference in a particular field.

Instead of creating content from scratch, you can search, organize and present relevant information to your audience in an easy and digestible way.

Like news.

For instance, Adam sharing news about AI will improve his credibility as an expert when he officially launches SureWriter.

Collaborate with other people

Don’t limit yourself to your website and your platforms when it comes to growing your personal brand.

Surrounding yourself with people who share your values, target audience and goals will skyrocket your growth.

Co-creating products, giving interviews, participating in third-party podcasts or attending events as a speaker are some of the easiest ways to collaborate.

Engage with your audience

Engaging with your audience is crucial because it builds trust and loyalty, the essential pieces of a strong persona.

You’ve made a great effort to define your personal brand, establish it online and make it grow.

Take care of it.

Adam engaging with his community

Adam engages continuously with his audience on Facebook

Ask for feedback, respond to comments on your blog and messages on social media or host live Q&A sessions.

That will help your audience feel valued and heard

Participate in online communities

What if you don’t have your own audience to interact with?

Then you can add value in different online communities or sites that are already created around the topic or values you’re interested in.

Hang where your target audience is: subreddits, Quora spaces, forums… Even other people’s Facebook groups!

Help others, share your opinion and knowledge and maybe some of your own content. But don’t be spammy!

Wrapping up

Creating a polished online personal brand that helps you get closer to that goal is relatively simple.

Defining what you want to be and how you want to show yourself to the world is probably the most complex part.

By breaking this down into smaller steps such as defining your values, your target audience or the goals you want to help them achieve, you’ll find it easier to outline your identity.

A personal online brand is not a binary system where you have it or you don’t have it. You always have one.

Even not appearing in Google already says something about you!

That’s why you should not stop investing time and effort in improving it.

Creating public or premium content, collaborating with other professionals and people around you and engaging with your audience.

The sooner you start planting, the sooner you’ll start reaping the rewards.

So get started on it today!
